Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones wears down over time.
In a knee with OA, the fluid that cushions and lubricates the joints can break down and lose its ability to cushion your knee. Osteoarthritis mostly affects cartilage. Cartilage is the tissue that covers the ends of bones in a joint. When healthy, cartilage allows bones to glide over one another and provides a “shock absorber” function. The normal knee joint also contains a small amount of fluid called synovial fluid, which is a thick, gel-like substance that cushions the joint and provides lubrication to reduce friction.
Viscosupplementation is a procedure in which a thick fluid called hyaluronate is injected into the knee joint.
Hyaluronate stimulates the cells that produce the fluid in the knee, called synoviocytes, to produce thicker, better lubricating fluid that creates a cushioning, shock absorbing barrier between the cartilage surfaces. Effectively performing an “oil change” for the joint, hyaluronate improves the function of the joint and therefore reduces the pain from osteoarthritis of the knee, improves mobility, and provides a higher and more comfortable level of activity.
Knee & Joint Pain 100 million Americans suffer from knee and joint pain. In fact, this pain accounts for 25% of all visits to primary care physicians and half of all anti-inflammatory drug prescriptions. At Phoenix Integrated Medical Center we believe you can Rise Above with non surgical treatment options to relieve pain and naturally produce the best outcomes for you to get back to the life you desire.
Regain control of your life and Rise Above by taking advantage of our “No Cost To You Consultation” where we evaluate your arthritis pain, determine a differential diagnosis, and determine if this medical breakthrough may be right for you.
Have you failed Viscosupplementation in the past? Have you done the “Gel Injections” or the “Rooster Shots” and they didn’t work for you? Phoenix Integrated Medical is a leader in viscosupplementation. We only use the best, most effective, FDA approved supplements. And we do all of our injections using fluoroscopic guidance. This procedure allows us to make sure, 99% of the time, that the fluid we inject goes into the knee joint where it is suppose to, and insure the injection is as effective as possible. If you tried and failed viscosupplementation in the past and your doctor didn’t use guidance for the injection, you probably didn’t get the full benefit of the treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a revolutionary non-surgical technique performed as an in-office procedure. Platelets are the first cells that respond to the site of an injury. The platelets release growth factors and cell mediators that initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration.
Platelet Rich Plasma is prepared by taking a small sample of the patient’s blood which is placed in special processing tubes and then spun down in a centrifuge. This procedure separates the red blood cells from the platelets and serum. The red blood cells are discarded and the PRP is then injected into the area where the tissues have been damaged.
Since the PRP is considered autologous, meaning it comes from the patient, there is no chance of allergy or drug interaction. PRP also has a natural antibiotic quality so there is little chance of infection.
PRP is different from cortisone injections in many ways. Cortisone is a strong anti-inflammatory and “turns off” the inflammatory response. In many instances, cortisone interrupts the natural healing cycle and therefore tissues do not heal completely. Actually cortisone has been shown to weaken the tissues in the area of the injection. The benefit of cortisone is with less inflammation, there is usually less pain. PRP performs the opposite function. PRP “restarts” the healing cascade, bringing growth factors, cytokines and peptides to the area. These factors help to regenerate and heal the tissue, making it stronger over time. If you’ve had multiple cortisone injections in an area, you may consider PRP therapy to try to counteract the weakening effects of cortisone. PRP helps to heal and strengthen damaged connective tissue, including tendons and ligaments up to 40%.
Common conditions treated with PRP:
PRP is also able to be combined with other treatments such as stem cell injections and Class IV therapeutic laser.
At Phoenix Integrated Medical we are committed to providing the highest quality services available to the Central Florida area. Regenerative Medicine treatments offer a new and efficient treatment option that can augment the body’s natural healing process and rebuild damaged tissues.
What is Regenerative Medicine?
Man has spent centuries looking for ways to help extend and increase the well-being of their lives for the present and future generations. With the advancement of regenerative medicine, the power of true healing is being revealed within our own bodies, because as we now know, our bodies are designed to heal themselves!
When people think of regenerative medicine, it is often associated with stem cells. Stem cell treatments are taking the regenerative world by storm…. but should stem cells get all the credit? It’s a common misconception that stem cells are the only component needed in regenerative medicine to start the healing and regenerative process. While we agree that stem cells are an important part of regenerative medicine, equally important, if not more important, are the other components, chemical messengers comprised of growth factors and cytokines that enhance the body’s natural ability to heal and regenerate. In addition, collagens, proteins, hyaluronic acids and peptides assist in harnessing the body’s power of true healing.
How is Regerative Medicine used?
Orthopedic injuries are most often conditions that occur in the neck, back, hip, knee, elbow, ankle, shoulder, and foot. Since tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and bones in that area of the body don’t receive a great deal of blood flow, the body can’t always heal and regenerate itself effectively.
As scientific studies increasingly prove the inefficiency and harm of commonly used treatments like anti-inflammatory medications and corticosteroid injections, more people are seeking out regenerative medicine treatments to heal.
When treating articular cartilage injuries, for example, regenerative medicine treatments can both overcome the limited ability of the cartilage to self-repair by providing either new cells or growth factors needed to repair the cells. Studies indicate that such techniques can improve the efficacy and consistency of treatments and reduce the potential for future injuries in the same location.
Regenerative medicine provides individuals a safe and efficient alternative to surgery that not only resolves pain but has the potential to thoroughly heal difficult injuries.
How long do the effects of regenerative medicine last?
If you were to burn yourself on the stove while cooking, and the burn heals, how long does it last? Forever is the answer, until you burn yourself again. Regenerative medicine gives your body all of the building blocks, growth factors, peptides, cytokines, etc to heal the area more efficiently that you can on your own.
What orthopedic conditions can be treated effectively?
Where do we get our regenerative medicine products from?
All of our products are purchased from an FDA registered, multi-state licensed tissue bank. The tissue bank derives these products from birth tissues taken from carefully screened mothers at the time of delivery. These products do not contain any fetal or embryonic tissues. They are fully screened for disease and pathogens.
Why do we use birth tissues?
Research has shown that the use of human cell and tissue products from the umbilical cord and other birth tissues benefit certain injuries and conditions, allowing for faster healing and regeneration. Just as you have noticed that you don’t heal as quickly as you did when you were a child, birth tissues harness the factors that allow for improved healing at that age, and deliver them to your body for improved healing capacity.
The field of regenerative medicine offers exciting new, safe and effective opportunities for healing and recovery.
We are proud and excited to offer Class IV Laser Therapy here at Phoenix Integrated Medical! Also known as cold laser therapy, it is one of the most effective treatments for our patients experiencing pain.
What is Cold Laser Therapy?
Cold Laser Therapy is a colloquial term for Photobiomodulation (PBM Therapy).
It is a type of light therapy using lasers or LEDs to improve and repair tissue, reduce pain, and reduce inflammation wherever the laser beam is applied. Treatments take about 10 minutes and should be applied two or more times a week by our experienced staff.
Cold laser therapy has been used for many years on sports injuries, arthritic joints, neuropathic pain syndromes, back pain, and neck pain. Over 700 randomized clinical trials have been published on PBM therapy, half of which are on pain.
The largest patient base for cold laser therapy comes from British and US military, Premier Division soccer teams, Olympic teams, Formula One auto racers, rugby and cricket team therapists, as well as specialist pain clinics in the UK and USA.

Through chiropractic care and additional neurological and injury-specific therapies, we are able to treat specific medical problems such as neck pain, back pain, and spinal conditions. Chiropractic care is not just focused on the immediate treatment of conditions but healing the whole body over time. Your spine is made up of 24 specific vertebrae that allow your body to move, bend, and twist throughout the day. This same spine also holds and protects the central nervous system, which is responsible for controlling every muscle and organ of the body. This is why when the spinal column is misaligned, your whole body is suffering from joint dysfunctions and severe discomfort.
Our goal is to both treat joint pain and help prevent it from happening again. Since joint pain, misalignments, and traumatic injuries have lasting effects on the body, we recommend routine chiropractic care and neurological assessments to ensure your body is in tip-top shape and pain-free at all times.
We understand how scary and overwhelming traumatic injuries and concussions can be, which is why we are focused on immediate treatment, education, and preventative care. To do this, we provide a wide range of services to treat chiropractic issues, neurological trauma, and pain relief from joint-related injuries. Our treatment plans are customized to each patient’s needs and lifestyle to ensure we provide the best experience and help you achieve a full recovery during your therapy.
